Is My Horse Eligible?

CSI Registration Divisions

Please keep in mind that CSI does not knowingly register any “soft gaited” horses. If your horse comes from a gaited breeding program or from gaited bloodlines, you may be required to submit sample video of the horse at liberty in order to verify suitable gaits. If the horse is will be inspected within 6 months of registration, papers can be issued pending inspection, and without video.

The following outline requirements for each CSI registry division:

1) Curly Division (C). This Division is for horses that are believed to be dominant gene Curlies. One or both parents must exhibit curls and believed to be genetically dominant. All horses registered in this Division will be eligible for year end awards.

2) Smooth Division (S). This Division is for horses who appear to have a smooth coat, but are known to have one or both parents carrying the dominant curly gene. All horses registered in this Division will be eligible for year end awards.

3) Unknown Division (U). This Division is for all curly haired horses who are thought to be dominant gene curly horses but whose acutal pedigree unknown. All horses registered in this Division will be eligible for year end awards.

4) Recessive Division (R). This Division is for horses exhibiting curly characteristics, but with both parents showing characteristics of a straight haired horse. All horses registered in this division will be eligible for year end awards.

5) Breeding Improvement Division (B). This Division is for horses who are straight coated without a curly parent or showing curly characteristics. Horses registered in this Division are considered ‘improvement’ lines, bringing specific qualities into a Curly Sport Horse breeding program. Participation in CSI breeding stock inspections is strongly recommended in order to validate the horse’s ability to offer improvement to the Curly Sporthorse.
